Meet the Team behind Bucks Uniformed Youth
President of Bucks Uniformed Youth - Peter Kara
Peter was born in South Africa and grew up in a beautiful rural environment there before coming
to England to study. He is a qualified accountant with a long history of investment in private
companies and providing financial support and strategic planning advice to medium-sized
companies. He currently serves on the boards of two private companies.
Since 1991, he has had a wide range of involvement in the voluntary sector in Milton Keynes and
was treasurer of the National Schizophrenia Fellowship (now Rethink). He was a trustee of the
Milton Keynes Community Foundation and a director of its subsidiary, MK Community Properties
Limited, having served terms as chairman of both organisations.
Concurrently, he has been involved with local NHS boards as a non-executive director since
1993 and has served on all the predecessor boards leading up to, and including, Milton Keynes
Clinical Commissioning Group. He also served on the board the East of England Ambulance
Trust and still serves as a Mental Health Act manager for Central and North West London Mental
Health Trust.
As High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire in 2017 he was able to use his year in office to promote
wider discussion on mental health, particularly initiatives focusing on prevention and early
intervention. He believes young people are the key to creating a more humane, environmentally
aware and less avaricious society, and, therefore, should be given all the encouragement and
opportunity to create a better world for us all.
